Characteristic Search
Characteristic roles discovery is a method that groups users with common HR attribute.
This method is one of the quick ways to verify if there are roles around each HR attribute and also, you will be able to determine which role can work best for your needs.
Steps:
- In this training you will start by running the Sage DNA program and open the file:
“ConfigNoRoles.cfg”
- Click on the Discovery Menu and select the “Characteristic Roles”
- In the Search Parameters Window, fill in the data as in the example below:
Explanation:
In this page we have specified that we are looking for roles with minimum of 4 users and 2 resources.
Also, we have asked Sage to group people with common HR attribute “Organization”
And that each role must have at least 60% of the users with that same HR attribute , sharing of course the same resources.
- The following results are what you should see:
- Analyze each role by right click on the role and selecting “Show All Linked Entities”
- Select all the Characteristic Roles found and drag and drop them to your configuration with the Basic Role “ConfigNoRoles.cfg” window and Select “Yes for all”. Leave the ConfigNoRoles.cfg window open and close all other windows.

- Now Search for a new Characteristic Roles on the ‘partial Configuration’, go to the menu and select Discovery/Characteristic Roles and fill in the parameters and put ‘Title’ as the User Attribute. Once you have filled in the parameters select the ‘Search’ button.

- Select all the roles from the search results and drag and drop them into the ‘ConfigNoRoles.cfg’ window. When prompted select Yes for all. You may now close all windows beside the configuration with all the new roles ‘ConfigNoRoles.cfg’ window.

Your ‘ConfigNoRoles.cfg’ window should now have three types of roles as seen below. Organization and Title roles.

- You have now completed the Characteristic Role search. Close all windows without saving before beginning the next section.
